Tebowmania

The media is largely responsible for all of the hype regarding Tim Tebow. It doesn’t take a course in psychology to understand the fascination with him. The media zeroes in and keeps him in the bright spotlight because Tim Tebow is a story to follow.

Many of us are grateful that the media frenzy surrounding him has bumped the Kardashians out of the limelight (if only for a short time). So, even though we might not worship the ground Tebow walks on, we can be grateful for something. It’s not just his taking a knee in prayer before the kick-off or his quoting of Proverbs to his teammates that makes him stand out. ‘Tebow is an amazing player,’ according to Jason Hunter the Broncos defensive end said. ‘He’s a playmaker . . . we support him.’

Of course, it is acknowledged that “it’s not just Tebow making the wins possible.” Matt Prater, the kicker who nailed two 50-plus yard field goals to win one of six games in a row was great on the field. The Bronco’s defense is doing alright as well. Tebow himself knows this and said, “I don’t think it’s Tebow time. I just think it’s Bronco time.”

Head coach, John Fox, has his work cut out for him. He will have to ensure that his team maintains their positive outlook and that the Tebow buzz doesn’t “start to rub his other players the wrong way.” While Tebow has the most game-winning drives by any quarterback over his first 11 starts in the 4th quarter or overtime, it’s a team effort that allows Tebow to find the holes to run the plays.

As long as Tebow continues to keep the mania in check with his seemingly excess of humility, Fox’s job won’t be as difficult to perform. So what if Tebow puts bible verses on his eye black or takes a knee after a game winning drive? The focus should be on how he and the Broncos perform on the field. It’s about football. Don’t think Tebow or his teammates would have it any other way.
