4 Easy Ways for Moms to De-Stress

A mother’s job is never done, that is often how the saying goes. Moms these days often lead stressful lives that include work, children, house work and possibly even college.

According to a poll by thebump.com and Forbes Woman, 92% of working women feel stressed. While 89% of stay-at-home moms feel overwhelmed at home; 85% of these women agreed that they don’t feel they really get a break when their partner comes home.

So what are moms supposed to do to balance out the needs of kids, their partner, busy jobs and everything else? Here are a few tips for de-stressing.

Eat Stress-Busting Foods – Many foods have been proven to ward off stress and manage your mood. Bananas and black tea can help regulate your blood pressure and cortisol levels. Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids which can alleviate your mood; chicken breast also contains high levels of tryptophan, that same ingredient in turkey that usually mellows you out after Thanksgiving dinner.

Exercise – This may not seem logical because you’re already busy, but exercise pumps up the release of endorphins, can improve your sleep and lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety. Find a spare half an hour each day (or as often as you can) to get some time in for yourself and for your health.

Online Education – If you’re one of the many moms who is trying to balance school in addition to your other duties, online education might be right for you. Instead of having to drag yourself to campus or find a babysitter, you can take online college courses and do the work from home. You can complete your work while the kids are asleep, during playtime or whenever it’s more convenient for you.

Take a 30-Minute Break – While breaks aren’t necessarily required by law, it should be for moms. Taking a small break whether it’s to read a book, watch TV or play a video game can recharge you. Since approximately 85% of stay-at-home moms feel they don’t receive a break, it’s time to start taking one.
