During the summer months, many individuals are able to reduce some of their responsibilities and make room for personal pursuits. Even though people traditionally think about starting college in the fall, summer may actually be the best time to begin working toward a college degree. In fact, some professionals like teachers may even have the summer off.
If you have a family, though, you may worry that a full-time degree program could get in the way of planned trips or other activities. If this sounds like you, then online college is the answer. You can access online courses anywhere that you are able to connect to the internet.
For example, if you have planned long road trips, travel time does not have to be a waste. It can be used to do schoolwork. Innovations to technology make it possible for you to access web-based lectures or complete online assignments using your cell phone or other portable devices, such as the iPad.
An added bonus of taking online courses in the summer (if you are lucky enough to have a slower schedule in the summer) is that you buy some time to figure out how to integrate a college degree program into your work schedule. You can take one or two online classes in order to gauge your speed and ability, and then decide how much school work you will able to handle as your professional responsibilities increase. Or you can take a complimentary online course and earn free college credits to see if online education is right for you and get free college info.
You can also use online school and your summer schedule to sharpen your skills and improve your qualifications. As a result, you may have the leverage to ask for a promotion or raise when you return to work. In addition, your employer may be willing to pay for more education if you can prove that your job performance will be positively affected by earning an online degree.

Are summer classes offered by most online institutions?
October 12, 2010
There are different forms of online scheduling. An instructor may prefer asynchronous learning which allows you to participate on your own time. While others may prefer synchronous learning when interaction with your instructors takes place in real time. In an online setting, it requires that you log in to their classes at a specified time, typically similar to a chat room.

As a single parent when my kids are in school I don’t have time to work, take care of them, and do classes so I’m lucky to do one or even two classes a semester. In the summer though they spend a lot of time at camp and with their mother so I’m able to get more classes out of the way. More people should look into doing summer classes. The semesters are shorter but the classes are always a lot smaller so you get much more face time with your professor.

Hey Cameron. Online schools can have courses that last anywhere from five to eight weeks, or even longer. Classes are offered year round just as on-campus institutions are.
