Free Online Courses Save Students Money

As tuition costs continue to increase, many people are looking for ways to save money on college. Fortunately, there are options becoming available that will help, including free online courses!

Some organizations and schools are offering free courses. This gives students the opportunity to get a jump-start on their education, while they decide what they would like to study or save up for a college degree program.

Most schools do not allow students to earn credit for free online courses; they are intended to give students the background information they will need in order to succeed in a degree program. These types of classes may be ideal for students who are not yet sure what they would like to study, as they could allow them to discover their interest without worrying that they will waste money on course that do not interest them.

There are a handful of programs, such as Test Drive College Online, which provide students with transferrable credit.  Their free online courses are a great solution for students who are considering the idea of an online degree program, but are unsure or have not made the decision to enroll.

For instance, working students could choose to take a free online course while they remain in their current positions; a strategy that could prepare them to take on a larger online course load. Free online courses may enable these individuals to show their managers that they are able to handle multiple responsibilities.

As a result, these students’ companies may be more willing to help cover the cost of a higher degree program in the future, as they will know that their employees are able to enhance their qualifications without sacrificing the quality of their work. Consequently, free online courses may prove to be the best way for some students to ease their way into an online degree program – and a higher paying position.

I understand that it is not likely that you can get credit for these courses. However, if you complete the course and do well, can you then CLEP that course?

I have not heard of this before. I manage a department in a large comporation and would like to see some of my employees return to online school for a degree since the company reimburses for tuition. Would it be wise of me to suggest these online “test drive” classes to some of my employees?

I’m not exactly swimming in a vault of gold these days so anything that can save me money while still helping me out I’m all for it! I’ve already changed majors more times than I’d like to admit so anything that can help me figure out where I’d like to end up with out having to spend a lot of money sounds like a winning plan to me.
